Health and Safety policy
Movers Roehampton Health and Safety Policy
Movers Roehampton is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our moving and relocation activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety across all aspects of our removals operations, including domestic and commercial moves, packing, loading, transport and unloading.
We recognise our responsibility to comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and to apply industry best practice. Our aim is to prevent injury, ill health, damage to property and harm to the environment during every move we undertake.
Management Responsibilities
The management team at Movers Roehampton has overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining this Health and Safety Policy. Management will provide visible leadership, allocate appropriate resources and regularly review health and safety performance to drive continuous improvement.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for ensuring that:
All work is planned, organised and carried out in a way that minimises risk to staff, customers and the public.
Suitable and sufficient risk assessments are completed for moving services and associated activities.
Employees receive appropriate training, information and supervision for the tasks they are required to undertake.
Safe systems of work and company procedures are followed consistently.
Any accidents, incidents or near misses are reported, investigated and addressed promptly.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care for their own health and safety, as well as that of others who may be affected by their actions. All staff working for Movers Roehampton are required to:
Follow company policies, safety procedures and instructions given by managers and supervisors.
Use equipment, vehicles and personal protective equipment correctly and report any defects immediately.
Participate in health and safety training and apply the knowledge gained in their daily work.
Report hazards, unsafe conditions or concerns without delay so they can be addressed.
Cooperate fully with incident investigations and health and safety improvement measures.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Movers Roehampton conducts risk assessments to identify potential hazards related to our removal services. These assessments consider manual handling, lifting and carrying, use of moving equipment, vehicle operations, working at height when required, and access to and from properties.
Findings from risk assessments are used to develop and maintain safe systems of work. This includes planning the most suitable moving methods, determining staffing levels, using appropriate equipment, and ensuring that routes in and out of properties are safe and clear.
Before each move, our team evaluates site-specific conditions such as narrow stairways, uneven surfaces, obstacles, parking arrangements and weather. Where necessary, work is adapted or additional controls are put in place to manage risks safely.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Safe manual handling is a core element of our health and safety approach. Movers Roehampton provides training on correct lifting and carrying techniques, team lifting, load assessment and the use of handling aids.
Where possible, mechanical aids and equipment such as trolleys, dollies, straps and ramps are used to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. Staff are instructed not to attempt to lift or move loads that are beyond their capability and to request assistance or additional equipment when required.
All equipment used in our moving operations is maintained in good working order and inspected regularly. Defective or damaged equipment is taken out of service until it can be repaired or replaced.
Vehicle Safety and Transport
Our vehicles are operated and maintained in a way that protects the safety of drivers, crew, customers and other road users. Movers Roehampton ensures that:
Vehicles are regularly inspected, serviced and maintained according to manufacturer and legal requirements.
Loads are packed and secured to prevent movement, damage or instability during transit.
Drivers are competent, appropriately licensed and trained in safe driving and loading practices.
Driving hours, rest breaks and route planning take account of safety, traffic and environmental conditions.
Customer and Public Safety
We recognise that our work often takes place in and around homes, offices and shared spaces. Movers Roehampton takes practical steps to safeguard customers, visitors and the public by:
Maintaining clear access routes where reasonably possible during loading and unloading.
Using safe work areas for packing and preparation, keeping trip hazards to a minimum.
Positioning vehicles and loading ramps to reduce risks to pedestrians and other road users.
Communicating clearly with customers about any temporary restrictions or safety measures during the move.
Training, Information and Supervision
Movers Roehampton provides ongoing health and safety training appropriate to each role within the company. This includes induction training for new starters, refresher training, and specific instruction on manual handling, equipment use, vehicle safety and incident reporting.
Supervisors monitor working practices on site to ensure that training is applied correctly and that work is carried out in line with our health and safety procedures. Additional guidance is provided where needed to support safe performance.
Accident Reporting and Investigation
All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported to management as soon as possible. Movers Roehampton records and investigates incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions that reduce the chance of recurrence.
Where required by law, incidents will be reported to the relevant authorities. Lessons learned from investigations are communicated to staff and used to improve our policies and procedures.
Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
Movers Roehampton is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety. We review this policy regularly and whenever there are significant changes to our operations, relevant legislation or industry guidance.
Employee feedback, customer comments and incident trends are taken into account when updating our health and safety arrangements. Updated procedures are communicated to staff and incorporated into training and supervision.
This Health and Safety Policy reflects our commitment to carrying out all removal and relocation services in a responsible, professional and safe manner, protecting everyone involved in or affected by our work.
